The Story Behind Echoes of Iceland
When Gudrun first started dreaming up Echoes of Iceland, she wasn’t just designing a quilt. She was pulling together memories, traditions, and textures from the place that shaped her — Iceland. The name says it all. This project is full of nods to her homeland, from the colors and layout to the feeling it gives you when it’s all pieced together. This isn’t your average Block of the Month program. It’s a chance to stitch your way through Iceland’s beauty, history, and spirit — one block at a time.
Built to Teach, Designed to Inspire
From day one, Echoes of Iceland was meant to be a skill-builder. Gudrun crafted it for quilters who are either just starting out with Stripology or want to take their skills to the next level. Every block in this quilt teaches something. It’s hands-on learning, with each step building on the last.But it’s not just about technique. Each block was inspired by something from Iceland — whether it’s the sharp angles of volcanic rock, the movement of glaciers, traditional Icelandic knitting patterns, or the cozy warmth of handmade woolens. The blocks tell a story, and by the end, you’ve not only made a beautiful quilt, you’ve stitched your way through Iceland's heritage. A prerequisite for this BOM is successful completion of the Master Your Stripology Ruler Class.
What’s in the Program?
The quilt finishes at 74” x 82”, making it a large lap quilt or a stunning wall piece. Add a border and you’ve got yourself a full bed quilt. It’s available in two colorways — Cool and Warm — using fabrics from the Heima collection, which translates to “home.” Pretty fitting, right?There’s also a pieced backing Gudrun designed just for this project — the Aurora-Style Backing. It’s the perfect finishing touch to an already special quilt.
