AUGUST 8, 2022
August 2022 Journal
August has arrived, and summer is still in full swing! August can get busy , with back to school shopping, family time and trying to jam in as much as we can into “vacation” season! My schooldays are long past, but I still think of summer as vacation time, or for us, it’s now stay-cation time since we love summer in the Upper Peninsula. I may be a bit late in welcoming summer, but I have been busy here at the studio. Our porch and patio are open for stitching as we look forward to the cooler first weeks of Fall.
XO Tina

It Takes a Village…
It takes a Village…for one to prosper, to be nurtured, to love and be loved.
After a trying year and feeling that I am somewhat back on my feet, feeling strong and in tune to the gratefulness in my heart I am back to work, and getting into a bit of a rhythm.
As I search for new and creative ideas to share with all of you, I find that I am drawn to houses. Colorful happy houses, tall houses, short houses, wonky houses. Home is truly where the heart is!
In my search to find something to commemorate the love from those who took care of me, “my sisters in thread and needle,” those who opened their hearts gave freely of their time and talents, in that search I found a quilt pattern, “The Village.” I’d like to offer it up for those very giving sisters, my family, my tribe if I may say so, to join me in creating a studio friendship quilt, which will be renamed, “It Takes A Village.”

Kits have been prepared, and are now available for those who would like to participate. It just takes a small amount of time to stitch them up, 4 houses per kit, and return them back to me to be assembled into a bright, cheerful memory quilt that will always remind me of the love and support that only sisters of needle and thread share. I love you all, my heart is full of sunshine, love, kindness and gratitude because you are all part of, “my Village.”

Welcome to our Neighborwood
Studio E Fabrics is excited to welcome Mel Rowlands to their stable of talented artists. Mel is a gifted illustrator and she has created a magical world of charming woodland animals in her first collection, “Welcome To Our Neighborwood.” The assortment includes a 10-inch block pattern in a 24-inch repeat with sweet images of woodland animals with plenty of personality. It includes a hedgehog sniffing a flower, a racoon holding a camera and ready to take a “selfie,” an owl balancing on a large mushroom, a fox relaxing and enjoying the aroma of a flower, a bird plucking a leaf and a squirrel snapping a photo. The lead pattern combines a variety of woodland creatures accented by trees, mushrooms, leaves, butterflies and insects. Coordinates include mushrooms, small flowers, foxes, cool raccoons with sunglasses and cameras, a geometric, butterflies, birds, birdhouses and a camera print to have a little “selfie” fun. The color palette is primarily a range of teals and corals along with accents of orange, lime and grayed browns. The two free projects are easy to make small quilts with one featuring the 10-inch block images. We have kits cut and a sample soon to be completed!
